In 2022, its office energy consumption was just 56 kWh per square meter. This is well below the 70 kWh per square meter threshold required for office buildings to be considered ‘Paris Proof’ by the Green Building Council.
Read on to discover how this result was achieved.
Transforming historic office space from Energy Label E to ‘Paris Proof’
Vanbeek’s office building, a municipal monument dating to 1800, started its journey toward sustainability in 2019 with a programme of renovations– with full support from the landlord.
Measures included improved insulation, and the installation of solar panels, LED lighting and heat pumps. Staff based at the office were also encouraged to engage with energy saving initiatives. The result was an improvement of the building's Energy Label from E to A.
It was by integrating smart building solutions that Vanbeek was able to achieve an even further transformation in energy efficiency.
Energy Insight by ErbisOne: The beating heart of energy transition
Energy Insight, an advanced energy insight platform, played a key role in monitoring and controlling Vanbeek’s office energy consumption. As the "beating heart" of the building’s energy transition, Energy Insight provided critical insights into energy use, enabling Vanbeek to make informed decisions about energy-saving measures.
Energy Insight’s real-time energy monitoring allow Vanbeek to track their energy use down to the last kWh. Its predictive analytics forecast the office’s energy trends, helping to reduce energy consumption further by anticipating future needs. Energy Insight also enabled centralized energy control, providing a unified dashboard for managing all energy systems in the building.
Through Energy Insight, Vanbeek was able to optimize energy use across the building, systematically reducing consumption over time and ensuring that the energy transition efforts were well-informed, ongoing, and effective.
Priva ecoBuilding: AI-powered digital twin technology
In addition to Energy Insight by ErbisOne, Vanbeek leveraged Priva ecoBuilding, a smart building solution powered by AI and Digital Twin technology, to manage and optimize the building’s climate control systems.
The system created a virtual replica (Digital Twin) of the building’s climate system, simulating energy usage scenarios and identifying the most efficient strategies for heating, cooling, and ventilation. Priva ecoBuilding’s AI-driven technology served to continuously fine-tune the building’s climate control in real-time. Installed by VBOptimum, Priva ecoBuilding ensured the office's comfort levels while lowering energy consumption.
