Here at Priva UK, we believe it’s vital that we futureproof our industry by investing in training, support and development of young engineers. Which is why we’re so delighted to support a new forum for networking and support launched by the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA).

For engineers aged 35 or under, the BCIA’s Young Engineers Network aims to provide a support network and help young people progress in the building controls industry. Two of our own colleagues, Technical Apprentices Gareth Holvey and Andrew Knibbs are amongst the first to join the Network.

Individuals, work teams and employers from across our industry will all benefit from the improved engagement, motivation and ownership of this initiative which aims to:

Establish a network and forum for young BEMS engineers to share learnings and best practice
Help attract and retain young talent into the BEMS industry
Help guide young engineers in their career within the BEMS industry
Enable young people to establish a link to the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA)

Gavin Holvey, Priva UK & Ireland General Manager believes that this new network is much-needed in the controls industry.

“The last couple of years have been really tough for people of all ages - but, particularly those who are new to this industry. They simply haven’t had the same opportunities as those of us who are more established to widen their networks and connect with their peers. We’re so pleased that the BCIA recognised this need – and delighted that Gareth and Andrew will be able to hone their skills, develop their networks and make long-lasting connections with people from outside of the business. This network will bring added value to the Priva team in so many ways. Great work BCIA!”

The inaugural event takes place in London on Thursday 07 April from 14.00 – 20.00 and includes a tour of a prestigious engineering project followed by a chance to network, exchange ideas.

Going forward the BCIA anticipates that the Young Engineers Network will meet on a quarterly basis and will be expanded to accommodate those living and working in other areas of the country.
